Here is our intrepid undersea adventurer about to disembark from the Oceania Insignia, which is
anchored off the isle of Malé in the Maldives:
It was a real-deal submarine, a new modern-technology
surprise after a pretty pedestrian and disappointing 1950s glass-bottom boat in
Tobago. The submarine descended to 100 feet and then cruised along a fish-filled reef at between 60 and 70 feet; the same depth at which Bob dove in a different place.
Joani got a good video and some great pictures through the
portholes using Bob's iPhone with the 2x telephoto:
The submarine company put a diver out outside who dropped fish food near the sub to attract marine life .
Joani saw a creepy eel that was different than the spotted ones Bob saw.
The creature below is called a feather star and it is actually a marine animal. Go on, google it.
And she saw several kinds of yellow fish, which were her favorites:
Joani says the fish below has no fashion sense: everybody knows stripes and dots don't go together. This fish is obviously stuck in a 1960s Carnaby Street "mod look" time warp.
Tomorrow: our first port of call in India: Mangalore.
