Ko Samui, Thailand - March 17th

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Ko Samui is one of Thailand’s largest islands in the Gulf of Thailand, and is known for its palm-fringed beaches and dense, mountainous rainforest. It has several luxury resorts, posh spas and a rowdy nightlife scene that often attracts a backpacker crowd. Not Phukett but getting there.

Joani went snorkling on the Party Boat. It was organized by her friend Joyce, above. Original plan was a an hour of snorkeling, an hour lunch with cocktail hour, and two more hours of snorkeling at new spots. The first snorkel was good but not spectacular. It was really hot. The cold beer at lunch tasted really good. The group opted for an additional two hours of cocktails and a boat ride. Sometimes you gotta go with the flow. Good thing Bob had the underwater camera. Below is what he saw:

An ugly eel holed up inside a coral

Giant Clam

 Lion Fish

More than 10,000 of these, whatever they were. We swam through schools and schools of them.

This is pretty whatever it is.

Crusty old fish hiding behind a rock.

Followed this wrasse around for a while. He was not bothered by us in the least.

That's a wrap on Ko Sanui. Tomorrow is the first of our two full days in Bangkok. We have a private guide lined up for just us and one other couple; and we are excited.
