Boracay Island, the Philippines - April 18th

The Oceania Insignia anchored off Boracay in the Philippines, a resort island of white beaches and warm clear water.

Joani again allegedly went snorkeling on the party boat. Actually, it was a 3-wheeled, 7-passenger party tuk-tuk. Joani took a picture of her unindicted co-conspirators Jose & Ina, Joyce & Craig, and Chic & Robin from the front seat. The usual suspects. Picture taken after they allegedly had a couple bottles of San Miguel, the popular Philippine beer. They did actually snorkel twice before heading out for shopping and liquid refreshments.

Beach scenes from Boracay:

For me, every diving day is a good day. We saw a big old sea turtle:

Every once in a while the fish swarm all around you like the birds in The Birds. They bump into your mask and everywhere you point the camera you get fish pictures. Today that happened:

And there were some other neat fish:

My diving friend Maureen from Canada has done over 650 dives. I follow her around and do what she does. This has increased my bottom time a good 25%; she wastes no energy.

If you wanted to lose yourself for three or four months on a beautiful tropical island of great white sandy beaches and a really low cost of lodging, food and drink; this would be the place. We had a young woman originally from England diving with us who is a private school teacher in Phuket. She was spending her week of school vacation on Boracay. That tells you something, when someone from Phuket comes here for vacation.

A day at sea tomorrow and then we anchor off Kota Kinabalu, our first of three stops in Borneo. Wow. Never imagined in a million years we would ever get to Borneo.
