At Sea - Feb 17th

As we head north and east through the Mozambique Channel towards Nosy Be, Madagascar, here are some pictures of the harbor pilot coming aboard to guide us to our berths in Durban and Richards Bay South Africa. Normally they tender aboard by harbor tug; but in those two places they lowered abourd from a line from a hovering helicopter. Our ship is not big enough to have a helipad.

Door opening, harbor pilot waving:
 Ready to go

Here he comes!

After our Namibia excusions, Joani and her friend Julie Carter found they had bought the exact same bracelet visiting the same shop several hours apart.

Julie is from England. She asked Joani about "the Lemur tour you are arranging," but Joani mis-understood her British accent and replied, "Jules, we're not going to Peru."

After South Africa, Trishia from the ships crew organized an effort to collect everyone's leftover Rand currency to donate to a Mozambique orphanage, where help is sorely needed. Here are people from the orphanage who came to collect and thank us for the donation:

Another at-sea day tomorrow; will share some more pictures from Namibia and from the Zulu cultural heritage village.
